Miyoko Schinner
How to Achieve Happiness and Self-Empowerment
Through a Vegan Lifestyle

Veganism can lead not only to health, but happiness. Explore the 5 ways that a vegan lifestyle can bring you inner peace and empower you to affect positive change not only in yourself but the world.

Miyoko Schinner is founder and CEO of Miyoko’s Kitchen, makers of an award-winning line of artisan vegan cheese and other dairy alternatives sold in thousands of stores across the country. A vegan for thirty years, Miyoko missed the “cheese experience” and spent years perfecting recipes that would satisfy this craving not only for herself but foodies across a broad spectrum, eventually building a brand that is one of the fastest growing in its category.

Miyoko is the author of five cookbooks, including the bestselling The Homemade Vegan Pantry (Ten Speed Press, 2015) and Artisan Vegan Cheese (Book Publishing Co., 2012). She co-hosted three seasons of Vegan Mashup, a cooking show that continues to air on PBS stations nationwide. A coveted speaker, Miyoko presents at conferences, events, and universities across the country about the culinary arts, animal rights, and the future of food. She has been featured numerous times in the media, including The New York Times, San Francisco Chronical, Huffington Post, The Washington Post, The Guardian, The Today Show, PBS, and many others. Forbes recently included her in a line-up of women leading the future of food, and the North American Vegetarian Society inducted her into the Vegetarian Hall of Fame in 2016.

Caring deeply about animals, Miyoko, along with her husband, founded Rancho Compasión a farmed animal sanctuary in Northern California, home to a number of rescued animals including cows, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, and ducks.  Miyoko devotes her life to promoting a lifestyle based on compassion and sustainability to help preserve the lives of all animals and the health of the planet.

Dr. Justyna Sanders
The Whole Plant-Based Lifestyle:
Your Journey to Optimal Health and Wellbeing

Dr. Sanders shows us how a healthy lifestyle incorporates all 5 fundamental principles of using Lifestyle as Medicine: Mind, Body, Social Support, Environmental Impacts and Whole Plant-Based Nutrition. Understanding how to implement a whole plant-based lifestyle into one’s own life has by far the greatest impact on optimizing the ability to prevent, arrest and even reverse chronic disease. Our healthcare system is failing. Premature death and the incidence of chronic illnesses such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes are needlessly skyrocketing. Now more than ever, we need to rehabilitate the field of medicine and that begins with YOU!

Justyna Sanders, MD, is the CEO and Founder of Prescription Lifestyle. After obtaining an Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology degree from McMaster University in Canada, she then went off to complete her Doctorate in Medicine from Poznan University of Medical Sciences in Poland. As a visionary and advocate for the field of medicine and the health of humanity, Dr. Sanders created, whose objective is to provide life-saving information, promote health, wellness and prevention via evidence-based recommendations. She hopes this platform will influence the use of whole plant-based nutrition as medicine, aid in the unification of all evidence-based disciplines of medicine into one system, encourage the use of personalized medicine, focus on “whole-body” health and the underlying cause of disease, but most notably, to revere Lifestyle as Medicine.

Dr. Sanders’ sincere hope is that through her work, she will inspire and empower people to take autonomy of their own health and ultimately aid in the transformation of medicine.

Film Showing: Called to Rescue

A beautiful and inspiring glimpse into the ubridled compassion on fifteen farm animal sanctuaries throughout the US. The rescued farm animals, simply by being who they are, are changing lives, lifestyles, and beliefs on both sides of the fence. The humans, many of whom dramatically altered the course of their lives because of a connection with a farm animal, are dedicated beyond words.

Called to Rescue is a documentary film that showcases the incredible work being done on animal sanctuaries for the fortunate farm animals who have been saved from the modern animal agriculture production machine. This film provides an inside look into life on a sanctuary, the dedication needed to maintain a safe haven for these animals, and the incredible stories of how these animals are saving lives.

Every animal we met in the film has a name and a story. Their journeys range from the remarkable, to the heartbreaking, but all end within a safe haven.
